Hello Ladies!!!
Happy "post" Hera Day! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
I have a ton of info to share with you about the UCLA colonization that I
learned at yesterday's Southern California Province Day.
But before I get into the details, if you live in the Los Angeles area and
you might be interested in having a small, medium or large role in the
new UCLA colony, please Please PLEASE send your name, email and level
of interest to Allison Foster at afoster@alphachiomega.org asap!!!
Allison is the Member Services Director who will be working very
closely with the Colony Advisor/Advisory Board throughout this entire
process.
We are all Alpha Chi's.... it makes no difference where
you went to college or the level of involvement you had in college.
NOW, you have the opportunity to impact the development of a BRAND NEW
collegiate chapter. This is a big deal!
Now, for some details....
Coming up this Fall 2009, AXO will recruit the first new member class for the Alpha Psi colony.
These women will "most likely" be initiated by a combination of Southern
California-area alumnae and collegians. Exact timing has not
determined, however it has been confirmed that the "new member" period
for the colony will be roughly the same amount of time as a typical new
member period.
In the next month or so, Headquarters will make
announcements regarding the most critical volunteer positions such as
Colony Advisor, positions on the colony advisory board and other
Southern California Province-level positions.
The AXO Resident Consultant who lives ON-SITE at the UCLA chapter house will be Amy
Kalnoki!!! It is anticipated that she'll move into the UCLA house in August '09.
Other factoids you may want to know --
AXO will be the 12th sorority at UCLA. The most recent colonization was Gamma
Phi Beta back in 2002 or 2003 (not sure). There are two fraternities
colonizing at UCLA this Fall including Phi Delta Theta, so AXO will
have company so to speak as the "new kids on the block". We also
learned there will be 22 or 23 fraternities established at UCLA by
Spring 2010.
Sorority house total at UCLA is 130. Fall formal recruitment quota is averaging 45, and this is up from 25-30 a few
years ago. The two largest sororities currently have 142 and 138
members.
Separate from the colony advisory board, which will largely impact the chapter's formation at the beginning, chapter
education and volunteer needs continue well beyond initiation. That
said, alumnae volunteers are a critical component! If you aren't
available "right now" or "this Fall", Headquarters still wants to know
about your level of interest!
The physical AXO house needs approx. $300,000 in renovations to get it "up to speed". The first
collegians will move into the chapter house in Fall 2010, and Fall 2010
will also be the first formal recruitment for AXO. The chapter house
can sleep 48 members.
Mary Davids is the Alpha Psi House Corporation Board President, and she has two available volunteer
positions on the House Corp Board. In the coming months, Mary will be
interviewing four professional designers to determine the best way to
proceed with renovations. If you are interested in volunteering your
time for the House Corp Board, please email Mary directly
(mgdavids@aol.com).
Later this year, there will be a large fundraising campaign to renovate the chapter house. If you have
experience writing fundraising brochures, please contact Mary
immediately! However, feel free to donate funds now and mail your check
written to Alpha Chi Omega, to the attention of Mary Davids, at 638
Hilgard Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90024 (that's the AXO UCLA house address).
Keep in mind, this amount is not tax deductible. If you'd like to see
pictures of the Alpha Psi chapter house, they have a renters' website
with some pictures.

I think that's it for now! Email me, Allison Foster and/or Mary Davids with your questions!
